The Outdoor Edge Razor Pro is part of a family of high quality hunting knives that have a replaceable, razor sharp blade.

With the Outdoor Edge knives, you will never have to deal with a dull blade again!

After using this knife for more than 8 years, I have updated this review to include everything that I have learned using this knife for field dressing and skinning deer, elk and other wild game.

Outdoor Edge Razor Pro Hunting Knife

The Outdoor Edge Razor Pro is the first patented replaceable blade hunting knife that also contains a razor sharp gut hook blade which makes field dressing your deer a breeze.

It comes with 6 surgically sharp replacement blades that change out with the push of a button.

It also has a black oxide coated blade holder which gives the razor sharp blades the same structural strength as a regular knife, but the razor sharpness of a scalpel.

My Experience Using The Outdoor Edge Razor Pro

I first tested and reviewed the Razor Pro for this publication more than 8 years ago. Since that time, this knife has become my go-to hunting knife that I carry on my belt every time I enter the woods.

I have field dressed more than 20 deer with this knife and I absolutely love the gutting blade. It makes it virtually impossible to puncture the paunch, which is so important when using a gutting knife.

I then switch to the replaceable blade, and it is ideal for working inside the cavity and completing the field dressing.

When I field dress a deer, elk or other big game animal, I put the knife down multiple times during the process. I love that the blaze orange handle makes the knife so easy to find in the leaves or debris on the forest floor.

If you have ever used other knives with a wood or brown handle, you know the disappear in the leaf litter very easily.

Before I started using the Outdoor Edge, I used a Buck 110 for gutting deer and other wild game and I was constantly looking for the knife after I had put it down. It just blends in with the forest floor.

Once I get the deer home and hung up, the Razor Pro functions as an awesome skinning knife.

I have used this knife to skin both deer and elk.

I can tell you from experience that using the skinning blade to get through elk hide will dull the blade quickly.

With a standard knife, I would have to stop and grab a sharpening stone or other knife sharpening device, and spend a number of minutes honing the blade, but with Outdoor Edge knives, I simply press the button, remove the dull blade and grab a new blade out of the handy storage pocket in the sheath and I have a super sharp knife in seconds.

I have also used the Havalon Piranta as a skinning knife, but what sets the Razor pro apart is the sturdy blade holder that gives this knife some strength and structure. The Piranta is more flexible and delicate.

I really like that extra strength. It makes the Razor more like a traditional knife, but always with a super sharp blade.

And of course, I love the gutting blade on this knife.

I have used this knife to process my deer too, but I have found that it is better to switch to a boning knife for butchering and cutting venison up in preparation for the meat grinder.

I have tested and reviewed many knives over the years and the Razor Pro is the one that is still in my hunting pack today.

Outdoor Edge Razor Pro Quality

I am very impressed with the quality of this Outdoor Edge folding knife.

The rubberized TPR handle fits in your hand nicely and provides a no slip grip when compared to some of the slick wood handles on some deer hunting knives.

The handle is also available in blaze orange, which is extremely convenient when you are field dressing a deer in low light and set the knife down in the leaves.

The blades are 42OJ2 stainless steel and are unbelievably razor sharp. The black oxide blade support is well built and give the knife incredible strength.

It comes with a camouflage nylon sheath that has a pocket which stores the individually wrapped blades for ultimate convenience.

Design and Functionality

The patented drop point design of the Razor Pro is taking the hunting knife world by storm.

The convenience of not having to sharpen the knife, and instead just changing to a new surgically sharp blade is game changing.

Couple that with a built in gut hook blade that opens up deer like a zipper, without any chance of cutting into the stomach or intestines.

Add in an ergonomically designed, non slip rubberized handle in blaze orange so you can't lose it, and you have the best deer hunting knife on the market today.

PROs

  • Razor sharp replaceable blades. No more sharpening your deer hunting knife.
  • Black oxide blade support for replacement blades gives the knife the strength of a regular knife.
  • Ergonomically designed rubberized handle reduces hand fatigue, provides a no slip grip, and stays warmer than a traditional wood handle.

CONs

  • We found the groove in the black oxide blade holder somewhat difficult to clean.
