Our staff here at DeerHuntingGuide.net has tried just about every archery bag target on the market, including many from Morrell, and the Outdoor Range Target has consistently performed better than all of the rest for durability and ease of use.
The one downside with bag targets is that you cannot shoot broadheads into them, so you can only shoot field tips.
However, if you are using expandable broadheads, like Rage, they come with a practice tip that you can use with the bag targets, so that is not a concern.
The Outdoor Range Target is quite large at 31"tall by 29" wide and it is 14" deep with a patented multi layered density design and nucleus center that can stop arrows from compound bows up to 380 fps.
The weatherproof cover is extremely durable and can be left outside, which is good because this target is heavy, weighing in a 54 lbs. You do not want to be dragging this target in and out of the garage everyday.

5. GlenDel Full-Rut Buck 3D Target - Best 3D Deer Target
When it comes to 3D targets, the Field Logic GlenDel Full Rut Buck Target is the largest and most realistic-looking target on the market. It has a total height of 62-inches.
It also has a durable foam construction, and it is lightweight and easy to use. You can move it from one point to another without any hassle.
This target can withstand shots from the fastest and most powerful compound bows. Although you can shoot anywhere, there is an insert core in the center that represents a buck’s vital organs. This part of the target measures 14x14x14 inches.

Arrow removal can be somewhat difficult and this target can be left outside in your backyard, although I do have a word of caution from personal experience.
This is my personal favorite target and I use it all the time. Last year I had this target set up in my backyard and it was mid November, middle of deer season. I went outside one morning to find the target in multiple pieces all over my yard.
It was during the peek of the rut and one of my resident big bucks decided that he didn't like this intruder in his territory, so he attacked it!

When choosing an archery target, you will come across a wide range of types of targets. Each one offers a unique set of pros and cons. Below is an overview of the three fundamental target types.
Bag Targets
A bag target is a large bag filled with synthetic fiber that stops arrows quickly with relatively little penetration. The removal of arrows is usually easy.
Since it's a bag, archers have a large shooting surface to practice with, but the downside is that these can't be used as broadhead targets.

Foam Targets
Most archery targets are made out of some type of foam. There are two types of foam targets: solid block and layered foam targets. The solid foam blocks are more weatherproof and durable. However, the ease of arrow removal is better in layered foam targets.
Both types are comprised of high-density plastic foam that offers excellent stopping power.
Foam targets make the best broadhead targets.
These targets are very durable and will last longer when used for daily shooting sessions for both crossbows and compound bows.
3D Targets

Homemade Targets
When I was a kid, we just used a bale of hay as an archery target. Sometimes we would draw a bullseye on a piece of paper and put that on a hay bale. Paper targets were simple to repace when they wore out from too many shots. That was the ultimate homemade target. Of course, we also made our own bows out of native wood, without fancy arrow rests.

With today's high powered compound bows, homemade targets are not really recommended due to safety factors, but if you choose a recurve bow, a hay bale may be all you need.
If you do decide to try your hand at making DIY archery targets, make sure that the foam or stuffing is capable of stopping an arrow from your bow.

What To Look For When Buying the Best Archery Targets
Deciding what type of archery target you would like is just the first step in the purchasing process. There are still some factors that you should consider in order to get the right target for your situation.
Shootable Sides
Different targets feature different numbers of sides for shooting. Typically, targets have two, four, or six sides. However, some 3D targets, like the Rinehart Broadhead Target mentioned above, have 18 sides.
Besides the number of sides, you should also consider the designs printed on the target, which can range from simple circles to intricate deer vitals. You may also find targets with multiple design types.

Different targets have different arrow speed limits. Generally, you will find a limit of 350 feet per second or fps, 450 fps, or 500 fps.
Apart from speed, also examine the target compatibility. Does the target work well with field tip arrows or broadhead arrows? Can you use mechanical broadheads?
You will come across archery targets that range from limited to versatile compatibility. While limited ones offer optimum performance for one particular arrowhead type, the versatile ones allow you to broaden your skill set.

Arrow Removal
The ease of arrow removal depends on the target material. Layered foam usually allows for easiest arrow removal, while synthetic fibers cause arrows to get stuck. Some targets even require you to purchase a separate tool to remove arrows.
Be sure to look for a target that features easy arrow removal.

Portability
Most archery targets are heavy and difficult to move. If you want to move your target frequently, you should opt for a lightweight and compact target. Look for carrying handles that make handling and transportation easy and allow you to carry a bow in your other hand.

How Long Do Archery Targets Last?
The lifespan of archery targets depends on usage frequency and build quality. On average, a target lasts around three to four years. However, when maintained, some targets can last up to six to seven years. If the cover of your target can be replaced, this heavily increases its longevity. Proper care of all your hunting gear will insure a long life.
What Archery Targets Last The Longest?
Foam block targets last the longest. The self healing foam target can withstand thousands of shots and can be used on a daily basis. Foam targets are also impervious to the weather, unlike bag targets, that will eventually need the cover replaced.
Can You Leave A Block Target Outside?
Yes you can leave a block target outside. We leave them outside in the backyard for multiple seasons and in all weather conditions. You will see some weathering after a couple of years, but the integrity of the target will not be compromised.
Will A Hay Bale Stop A Compound Bow?
Yes a hay bale will stop a compound bow and makes a very good backstop for paper targets. However, the hay bale will not last as long as a foam block target and the hay bale will have to be replaced frequently. Please use caution when making DIY archery targets.
What Type of Targets Are Used in Olympic Archery?
