The big 12
It was november 11 2010 in Christian County Illinois. It was 4:00am when I woke up to hit the stand. I could just tell it was going to be a good morning. The weather was nice, a little warmer than recomended, but over all just a good day to sit in the stand. I got to my stand at 5:11am, just 20 mininutes later I heard some movement to my left in a large CRP field I was hunting next to. Daylight came at about 5:45am, I sat and watched a young 6 point buck come in and scrape a small tree while chasing a doe. The rut was finaly in gear and this buck was ready to go. They both walked 5 yards to the right of my stand without knowing I was even there. Movement was a bit slower for the next hour, some movement here and there. It was about 7:45 when I decided to hit my primos buck roar call. I was waiting patiently for the big one to come in. It was about 8:02 when I saw movement in the timber in front of me. Then I saw antlers and I knew it was a buck of some size. I stood up in my stand and clipped my release as he was coming in hot. He reached 7 yards, I drew my bow back and let the arrow fly shooting the buck in the spine right above the lungs. It droped right in front of me. I finaly got the buck I was looking for. I walked up to him, he was a big main frame 10 with his g2s split he scored in at 162 1/8.
